Senior Assisted Living Facilities And Services

Assisted living facilities for seniors are those that provide services for residents who need help with their daily activities but still wish to maintain their privacy and independence. These facilities are difference from nursing homes because those who live in these facilities do not need constant medical care as much as those in nursing home do.

Aside from less constant medical care, below is a list of some of the most common services offered by assisted living facilities:

- Bathing
- Grooming
- Eating
- Personal hygiene
- Dressing
- Three meals a day
- Round-the-clock supervision (not necessarily medical supervision)
- Transportation
- Health and exercise
- Cultural activities
- House keeping

Take the list as a mere guide, though. Services offered can be different from one facility to another. So before you even sign up yourself or your loved one to a facility, make sure that he or she will be well-provided for there. Aside from that, make sure that the facility is flexible enough to be able to accommodate the particular needs of the resident. Most facilities customize the plans for their residents and update it constantly as the needs of the resident changes.

Keep in mind too that the more comprehensive the particular facility provides, chances are that the more expensive it will be. If you can afford it, then you won’t have any problem. However, if your budget is a concern, you have to weigh things a bit more. Check if the facility covers most, if not all, of the residents needs. And if the prices are reasonable, go for it. Try not to be tempted by comprehensive services that your loved one may not need at all. You’ll just waste money in the process.

So remember that shopping for the right assisted living facility doesn’t end with the list of services that the resident needs. Aside from that, things like the facility’s ability to actually accommodate the resident as well as checking the services that the resident really needs. Doing so will help save you from a lot of headache and save you a lot of money in the process.
