Affordable Places To Retire In California
California is one of the states in the United States that’s notorious for its high cost of living. It is therefore not a popular retirement destination for retirees. Retirees usually have small pensions which may not often be enough to sustain their stay there, let alone pay for the high rental fees of properties.
But for those who are after what the state has to offer, there are affordable options for retirees. After all, California has things that not all states have like easy access to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. And then there’s Hollywood of course and the beaches of the Pacific.
So if you’re a retiree planning to move to California, or if you’re just planning of retiring to this state someday, here are some tips that will make moving here affordable:
1. Save up early – while this is a general tip for those who wish to live comfortably after they retire, this is especially important if you wish to move to a state that’s as expensive as California. Currently, typical prices of houses average at about $500,000 and the rent for a typical two-bedroom apartment costs around $1,000. The prices are indeed steep and make sure you prepare yourself for them if you wish to move here eventually.
2. Settle for cheaper areas – the value of a real estate depends a lot on the area where it is situated. So if you’re looking for affordable housing in California, you might as well not look for them in large cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco. If commuting to these cities is not a major concern for you, try living in areas near them instead. You are sure to save more. Some regions you might wish to consider include portions of Northern California as well as parts of the Central Valley region.
Sure, looking for a really affordable place to retire in California may be next to impossible. But if you’re willing to give up on a few luxuries and to live far from big cities, then it is perfectly attainable. Otherwise, you better start saving up money early so you can afford to live comfortably on this state.
